Integrated Nano-guiding Structures

Recently, there has been a growing interest in developing and integrating waveguides of sub-micron dimensions for applications in several scientific fields, such as in telecommunications, biophotonics, quantum computing and sensing technologies. Over the last decade, fabrication technology and techniques have significantly improved, allowing the design and realization of sub-wavelength nano-guiding structures with low optical losses. The small cross-sectional dimensions of the waveguides (<1um) provide the possibility of integrating nano-waveguides (also called nanowires) on or between microchips as information channels for photonic applications [1-2].
